With this being my first actual post, I want to start by giving you insight into its purpose.
I often look around in any given setting and feel a bit out of place. I am willing to bet that most everyone has those feelings. In the comic book industry, I watch as people clamor for recognition and clout. I watch others and wonder if I could ever measure up to their level of success. As a musician, I have written albums upon albums worth of music, yet have never released so much as an EP. In graphic design, I watch others get hired for jobs while I see their previous works and can’t help but ask why? Even in church, I feel like I want to ask questions, I want to challenge a deeper conversation. It is something that has led me to both the highest and lowest moments in my life.
The difference is, do we let them break us or shake us?
We were never promised easy. I try to make that as clear to people as possible. Instead, we are promised tests, trials, and challenges. The difference is, do we let them break us or shake us? For too many people, I watch them break under the pressure of measuring up. For others, I watch as they are shaken into becoming better, stronger, and wiser.
I think a lot on the subject of creators’ mental health. If you have read any of my articles on various websites, you will know that I talk about this quite a bit. A lot of it comes from my constant assessments of my mental state while being a creator. The remainder comes from watching other creators struggle with ineptitude and self-deceit.
This newsletter will explore a lot of fun projects, flash fiction, and my random musings. Yet, at its core, it will be a tool to challenge me and to challenge you to think about your mindset. At Catalyst Comics Studio, our mantra is “Do Better. Be Better.” and it serves as a reminder to ourselves to never become stagnant in any aspect of our lives.
I hope you all enjoy this journey with me, and I will see you in the content!
