Bethany was screaming internally as she listened to the beings before her spout their glorious feats of saving mankind. It wasn’t that she was ungrateful, but she had no idea any being could go on for this long. At one point she wondered if it was all a lie and if this was just a way for her to be tortured, but then she recognized that they really were just that boastful. She found it incredibly off-putting, and a strange contrast to what she had always thought of when it came to aliens. Nevertheless, here they were sitting right in front of her going into a full-on explanation.
“I still don’t understand what this has to do with the body we found, and why you kidnapped all of us,” Bethany said, aggressively interrupting the monologue. The beings (whom she has learned are called Altarni and Saphrana) looked at her with a look of discontentment.
“Saphrana, she still doesn’t get it,” Altarni said as he ran his long fingers across his lapel.
“Beth, can I call you Beth? I am going to call you Beth. Look, Beth, just like humanity, our own people have differing thoughts and always want to try and rock the boat. Inevitably it leads to strife, then conquest, then eradication. That body was of an enemy who very much meant to do you harm,” the soft-spoken voice explained.
“It didn’t kidnap us,” Beth shot back.
“It would have eaten you instead,” the deeper voice responded.
