“Why are these ones so different?” Bethany said as she braced her footing and faced the large beast standing before her.
“They are another race, just like you have in your world. Different areas breed different physicalities. These believed that they should be the ruling class,” Saphrana’s voice echoed in her mind.
“We’re not so different after all,” Bethany said begrudgingly. It was an easy enough thing to say, but the reality of using another body as a mechsuit flashed through her mind.
The massive beast barreled toward her, and she leapt high into the air, narrowly escaping the chomping bite that would have cut her in half. She spun around as she landed on top of a set of crates. They wobbled beneath her, and a few of them made a loud crunching sound. She always forgets that this is two bodies worth of weight, not just her own small frame. The beast had already turned around, snarling at her in anger.
“You can only escape me so many times, Saphrana,” it bellowed before charging again.
“How do you know this thing?” Bethany asked as she jumped from the crates and slid underneath the creature, using her bladed arms to cut deep into its legs. It made a thunderous roar as it screamed out in a blistering mix of anger and pain.
