The following is a warm-up writing based on the provided prompt: She’d got him wrong, but that was her loss…
She'd got him wrong, but that was her loss. Ed knew that in the end, it only meant that he would be able to spend more time, more money, and more fun on himself than trying to split it multiple ways. It wasn't that he was unwilling to do it, it was that Melissa had wanted him to just hand over all of his time and being to her. That was fine in many ways, but when it came to the reality of where each of their money came from, it was going to cause more of a problem than it was worth.
Yeah, he seemed like the happy-go-lucky chap that everyone loved to hang out with and talk to, but only Melissa knew who he truly was. He, too, then also was the only one who knew who Melissa was. So, what would they make of their business dealings going forward? Would they be able to continue working together? If not, would everything need to be split apart?
Split apart, he chuckled at the phrasing. For a couple of serial killers, they both knew the irony in the statement. He thought for a moment of saying it out loud so she could hear...would she laugh with him? It wasn't worth the test. No, their line of work didn't leave a lot of room for much banter when they were on the clock.
Still, nestled in this little closet could be seen as romantic. Ed's mind went back to the simpler times of a child and playing games like 7 minutes in heaven. This wasn't heaven though...instead, they were there to escort their target to whichever version of the afterlife they believed in. Still, in the end, it is her loss, Ed would have given up the world for her.
