Choosing a day to relive
What is a day that you wish you could relive?
It may sound crazy to not state days like my daughter’s birth when answering this question. I feel that days like that should be negated from answers, as they are just too obvious. It makes the work of thinking through your past null when instead your reflections open up the nostalgic part of your brain. Truth be told, I had to really think about it all for a few moments. I had to reflect back on some personal history, some things that were good, and some that were bad.
In the end, to choose another day, there is one that stands out. I was young, in middle school actually, and we often spent our weekends in skating rinks or bowling alleys. I vividly remember rolling into the merch section and buying some glow sticks for the evening with a few friends. We had been terribly busy crushing frozen slushies and trying to top each other’s high scores in the racing arcade games. When I was on my way out, a girl rolled up to me and began to fidget with my nail cross necklace.
Now, I grew up with this girl, fell in and out of contact, and still, I remember that particular day and moment. At the time, I thought nothing much of it, and I just figured it was a way to chat and catch up. Some fleeting moments, make an impact when you may not even realize it.
It took me nearly twenty years to recognize how important that experience was to me. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but I would relive it in a heartbeat.
How about you, what is a day that you would relive? What kind of impact did it make on you?
